The Truth About Bullying
I know we are all fond of saying “No Tolerance,” and wearing pink shirts, and clucking our tongues around bullying. Do not get me wrong, Sister, I don’t condone bullying of any sorts.
But if we are all adults here, I’m going to call a spade a spade:
It’s time to shift the paradigm of how we approach bullying.
A) I see grown adults bully, finger-point, name call, and shame all the time on social media. Tagging people out on Facebook, passing judgement, making assumptions, and then calling in the village members with their pitchforks to form an opinion. These same people- who I know- wouldn’t dare let anyone speak to their child that same way, yet the behaviour is fine for them.
B) Let’s address what bullying is really about. We live in a society that is so hell-bent on punishment as opposed to healing. While bullying behaviour should have its consequences, we need to get to the root of it, and empower those who are bowled over in its path.
